Images & Themes

Image Quality and Resolution

Image quality is my number one criteria when selecting a puzzle. Piece thickness comes a close second.

The Coon Magic House puzzle had a fuzzy-ish appearance, which I found disappointing at first. I researched the illustrator, Cotton Lion to see if it was the artistic style. Ultimately I believe the image quality is related to the material it’s printed on.

Theme Variety and Originality

Pintoo has offerings from 19 artists in their jigsaw puzzle catalog. Their style range goes from cute animals to travel posters and scenic landscapes.

They also offer a selection of 3D puzzle vases, jars, globes, and even flower pots.

Benefits of Doing Jigsaw Puzzles

There are so many benefits to doing jigsaw puzzles. Doing puzzles is similar to meditation; it helps you focus your mind. When concentrating solely on the puzzle, every day stresses and anxieties have no room to run rampant.

Memory improvement is another major benefit of puzzling; one must recognize patterns and shapes and remember where they belong in the wider picture. Studies show they are especially helpful for Alzheimer and dementia patients; the mental stimulation has been shown to delay a worsening of symptoms.

In addition to those skills, they help teach pattern recognition, shape sorting, color recognition, problem solving, and even patience.

Does Jen Recommend?

Yes!

I liked doing this plastic puzzle, but my hands did not. I loved the “click” when putting the pieces together, but a certain amount of force was necessary to snap the pieces in place. This might be a challenge for people with arthritis or other fine motor skill issues. Alternatively, take lots of breaks!

The pieces for this 600 piece puzzle were packaged in 3 bags. One bag for the edges, two bags for the top and bottom sections of the puzzle. I liked the funky look of the puzzle without the edges, but put them on anyway for my review.

Surprisingly a lot of people don’t like the pieces separated out when doing a puzzle. If this is something you don’t like, feel free to open all the bags and mix ’em up!

The Pintoo puzzles do not require glue. They stay snapped together and can be moved around from place to place. If you decide not to hang your puzzle you can store it flat or take it apart and store it in the box. I like to work puzzles in sections and the fact that the pieces stayed together was a huge plus.

I’ve reached out to Pintoo to find out if any of their products are made from recycled materials. I’ll update this post with their answer!

If you like trading puzzles or even donating them, the fact that Pintoo puzzles are plastic will ensure the next person getting the puzzle will not have to worry about peeling paper, or pieces breaking. The plastic is also water resistant. If you like puzzling with a beverage, spills will clean right up!

The image isn’t as crisp as I’d normally like, but it wasn’t a deal breaker.

Give them a try and let me know how you like them!
