KAAYEE focuses on designing and creating premium wooden puzzles made from basswood, which is a versatile wood with a long history. It’s a favorite among woodworkers and carvers for its ease of use.
The Yin Yang Hummingbird is a unique wooden puzzle that combines beautiful design with the challenge of assembling intricate pieces.
The image is textured and has a slight satin finish, so glare is at a minimum. The colors are quite vibrant and rich in hue. I especially love that some of the wood is bare, which is why I chose this particular puzzle.

KAAYEE Wooden Puzzle Materials and Cut Style
Cut Style
KAAYEE employs a random-cut style for their puzzles. Random cut puzzles feature pieces that are cut in various shapes and sizes, often with whimsical and non-uniform edges.
This technique adds an extra layer of challenge extra level of challenge to solving the puzzle, as it eliminates the visual cues provided by the regular grid pattern.
My 100 piece Yin Yang Hummingbird puzzle had 9 whimsy pieces.
Materials
KAAYEE wooden puzzles are made from Basswood, also known as American Basswood or Linden. Basswood is technically classified as a hardwood, but its wood is surprisingly light, soft, and very easy to work with.
The image is UV printed which means ultra-violet light cures the ink as it’s printed onto the wood. The further surface coating prevents water stains and scratches ensuring your puzzle will last for many years.
Benefits of Doing Jigsaw Puzzles
There are so many benefits to doing jigsaw puzzles. They’re great for keeping your brain sharp. I use them for concentration, manual dexterity, and hand-eye coordination.
In addition to those skills, they help teach pattern recognition, shape sorting, color recognition, problem solving, and even patience.
Does Jen Recommend KAAYEE Wooden Puzzles?
So, let’s get to the nitty gritty!
I do recommend the KAAYEE wooden puzzles. Here’s why…
While there was no reference poster, the image was on the lid of the box in full color, and slightly recessed. I was hoping the puzzle itself would fit into the recess so I could use the lid as a frame, which would have been a cool idea.
The colors are beautifully rich and the glare is at a minimum, which is super important to me.
I was very happy to find that the fabric inside the box was not burlap (which sheds everywhere) for my 100 piece puzzle. You can see in the photos above it’s a thin, but stiff, fabric which keeps the pieces from sliding around in the box.
I loved that there were 9 whimsy pieces. Previous wooden puzzles I’ve done, which you can read about in my Wooden Puzzle Showdown post, vary in the number of whimsy pieces from zero to eleven.
I quite like the variety of images KAAYEE offers, I had a hard time choosing just one puzzle. There are some really cool shaped puzzles as well. The Yin Yang Hummingbird was not too challenging and I completed it more quickly than expected.
If you’re wanting to try a wooden puzzle, the KAAYEE brand may be a good jumping off point; the prices are very reasonable and the quality is excellent.
